Home EV Charger Installation in Hounslow
Hounslow stretches along the Thames and the Great West Road, from the Victorian streets of Chiswick and Brentford, through Isleworth and Hounslow itself, out to the 1930s estates of Whitton, Hanworth and Feltham. Chiswick’s Bedford Park was an early garden suburb, and its houses are still a landmark, so how and where you fit a charger matters here more than in many boroughs.
At EV Install Pro we fit Volec, Ohme and EVEC home chargers for Hounslow drivers, with prices starting at £899 including installation. We survey your home first, test the wiring, measure the cable route and confirm one fixed price in writing. We cover W4, TW2 to TW8, TW13 and TW14, and we check your address against Hounslow’s conservation areas, including the Article 4 areas at Bedford Park and Gunnersbury, before we quote.

Install Day in Hounslow, Hour by Hour
A standard house usually takes a morning or an afternoon. This is a typical run of events once the survey is done.
9:00 Arrival and walk round
Your engineer confirms the charger position and cable route you agreed in the quote, and turns off the circuit they need.
9:30 Charger and cable
The charger is fixed to the wall or post. The cable is clipped or ducted from the consumer unit to the unit.
11:30 Consumer unit work
The dedicated circuit is connected. If the survey called for a new unit or earth work, it is done here.
12:30 Testing
The circuit and charger are tested, and the supply is turned back on.
1:00 Handover
We set up the app, show you a charging schedule, and send your certificate and network operator notice.
Timings vary with the house. Longer runs or extra electrical work add time, and your quote says so. Businesses along the Great West Road can also ask about workplace chargers.

Hounslow is a borough of contrasts, and the style of your street shapes the install.
Victorian and Edwardian terraces in Chiswick, Brentford and Isleworth
Narrow frontages and period details call for a neat, small installation. We find the least visible wall and keep the cable run short.
1930s semis in Whitton, Hanworth and Feltham
Typical suburban semis with front drives. A wall mounted charger beside the car is the usual answer, with a short run from the meter.
Streets without off street parking
Hounslow has fitted lamp column chargers for residents without a drive. Our no driveway guide covers how this compares with a home charger.
Hounslow Home Charger Installation Prices From £899

How Long Each Charger Takes: Simple Sums
Charging time is the energy you need divided by the charger’s power. For houses 7kW is the usual choice, as 22kW chargers need three phase power that most homes lack. The table shows the three chargers, and the cards below show the sums.

Charging Time Worked Out, Not Guessed
At 7kW a charger adds 7 units of electricity (kWh) per hour. Real charging runs slightly longer because of losses and the car's own limits, but the sums are close.
Topping up 20kWh
About three hours at 7kW. A good fit for a quick evening charge after a day of local driving.
Adding 40kWh
Around six hours at 7kW, so an overnight window is plenty. This is the typical case for a regular commuter.
Filling 60kWh
Roughly nine hours at 7kW. Start in the evening and the car is full before breakfast.
If you set the EVEC to 3.7kW
The same 20kWh takes about five and a half hours, useful if you want a gentler load on your supply.
Compare the Volec Pulse, the Ohme Home Pro and the EVEC Home Charger. If you drive an older import, check Type 1 and Type 2 plugs.
Get a quoteFive Things to Check Before You Rely on Smart Charging
Smart charging works best when the basics are in place. Check these first.
- Signal at the charger. The app needs Wi-Fi or mobile signal where the unit sits. The Ohme Home Pro has its own 4G connection, and we check signal at the survey.
- Your electricity plan. A cheaper night rate gives the schedule something to save. See what home charging costs.
- Your car’s own settings. Many cars have a charge timer too. Use one schedule, not two, so they do not clash.
- Your charge limit. Decide whether you need a full battery daily or a lower limit.
- Solar. If you have panels, the Volec Pulse can follow them, covered in our solar charging guide.

Hounslow Charger Rules: Bedford Park, Pavements and Parking Zones
Conservation areas and Article 4
Hounslow has over two dozen conservation areas, including Bedford Park, Old Chiswick, Strand on the Green, Isleworth Riverside and Osterley Park. The council notice shows Article 4(2) directions from 2001 for non listed homes in Bedford Park and the Gunnersbury Park Garden Estate.
Pavements and cable gullies
The council does not allow charging cables across public pavements, and says it does not currently plan to introduce gullies across the borough. It prefers more public points on residential streets.
Controlled parking zones
Inside a zone, only permit holders for that zone can use council charging bays during operating hours. Outside those hours, any charging electric vehicle can use them.
Wiring and the network operator
We test your consumer unit and earth, notify your network operator and issue your Electrical Installation Certificate.

Hounslow Home Charger Questions
We live in Bedford Park. Can we fit a charger?
Often yes, but Bedford Park has an Article 4(2) direction from 2001 covering non listed homes, so external works need care. We check your address, choose the least visible position and flag what to confirm with the council. See our rules and permits guide for the general rules.
What about Strand on the Green, Old Chiswick or Turnham Green?
All three are conservation areas. A tidy wall mounted charger is often possible, but external works can need permission, so we check at the survey and tell you what to confirm before you commit.
Hounslow has about 200 lamp column chargers. Why fit my own?
The council reports around 200 lamp column points, which charge slowly and suit long stays. They are shared, and may not be outside your house. A charger at home is ready whenever you are, and runs on your schedule as in our smart charging guide.
Can I run a cable over the pavement, or will the council fit a gully?
The council does not allow cables across public pavements for safety reasons, and says it does not currently plan to bring in gullies across the borough. If you have no off street parking, a public point is the route. If you have a drive, you can have a home charger now.
We park in a controlled parking zone. Can I use the council chargers?
During operating hours only permit holders for that zone can charge in the bays. Outside those hours any charging electric vehicle can use them. If you have private parking, a home charger avoids the question altogether.
Is a 1930s semi in Hanworth, Feltham or Whitton a simple job?
Usually. These houses typically have a front drive and the meter close by, so the cable run is short. We still test the consumer unit and measure the route before we give a fixed price.
My Victorian terrace in Brentford or Isleworth has a small front garden. Is that enough?
If your car can park on your property, yes. The charger takes very little room. A new dropped kerb needs council approval, and in a conservation area the works may need permission too. We check this at the survey.
Can you fit chargers at a business on the Great West Road?
Yes, businesses are part of our work too. We can fit chargers for staff bays, visitor spaces or a small fleet. Our workplace charging page has the detail, or send us your site layout.
How much does installation cost, and which charger should I choose?
Fully installed, the Volec Pulse is £899, the EVEC Home Charger £995 and the Ohme Home Pro £999, each confirmed as a fixed price after the survey. The Volec Pulse is the one we point most people to, because it costs least and handles weather well. Anyone on a time of use tariff should compare the Ohme Home Pro.
Do you cover Heston, Cranford, Bedfont and Osterley?
Yes, all four are covered along with the rest of the borough. Pop your postcode into the form and we will confirm. Other common questions are on our FAQs page.
