Home EV Charger Installation in Hackney
Hackney is a borough of flats, but it is also a borough of tall Victorian terraces, and the ones with a front garden or a yard are where a home charger makes sense. If you own a whole house in Clapton, De Beauvoir, Stoke Newington or Dalston and can park on your own land, you can skip the hunt for a free bay and charge at your door.
EV Install Pro supplies and fits Volec, Ohme and EVEC chargers from £899, fully installed. An engineer surveys first, looks at the wiring and the route from the meter, and sends one fixed price in writing. We cover E2, E5, E8, E9, N1 and N16, and because Hackney has many conservation areas, we check your street’s planning rules before anything is booked.

Home Charger or Street Charger? What Works in Hackney
Hackney is investing in public charging, and for flats and on-street parkers that is a real help. This is how it compares with a charger of your own.
| Charger at home | Street charge point | |
|---|---|---|
| Where you charge | At your own front door or yard | On a street bay, often shared with other drivers |
| When it is free | Whenever you need it, day or night | Only if a bay is free and you can park there |
| Who sets the schedule | You, in the app | The charge point operator |
| What it takes | A survey, an install and a certificate | A resident request to the council |
| Best for | Houses with space to park on private land | Drivers with no private space at all |
Hackney has plenty of studios and workshops too, from Hackney Wick to Homerton. We fit workplace chargers for them.

Terraces are the classic Hackney house. A few small details decide how your install goes.
Terraces with a front garden
Clapton, Stoke Newington and De Beauvoir have many. If the garden is yours and the car parks there, we mount the charger on the house wall or a post and run a short, neat cable.
Houses with a yard or rear access
Some Hackney houses park at the back. The cable route is longer, so we measure it at the survey and list it as its own line in your quote.
Street parking only
If your house has no private space, a home charger will not work. Zest is installing public points for residents, and our no driveway guide covers your options.
Hackney Home Charger Installation Prices From £899
Choose your charger, and we confirm a fixed price after the survey. It includes the unit, a standard cable run, testing and your certificate. A longer route or any consumer unit work is added as a separate line. See what drives the installation price for the full breakdown.

Three Questions That Pick Your Charger
Answer these and the choice usually makes itself.
Do you want a cable on the wall?
A tethered charger like the Ohme Home Pro or EVEC has the lead attached. The Volec Pulse is socketed, so you plug in your own Type 2 cable and keep the wall tidy, which many terrace owners prefer.
Is your electricity plan cheaper at night?
The Ohme Home Pro can follow a time of use tariff by itself. The Volec Pulse and EVEC use a schedule you set in the app, which does the same job for most people.
Is your front wall exposed to rain?
Hackney terraces often have a front wall facing the street. The Volec Pulse is IP66 rated, so rain and spray are not a worry, and it is also the lowest price from £899.

Day one: your engineer shows you the app. You pick a charging window and plug in. Nothing else to do.
Day two: you come home, plug in, and walk away. The charger waits for your window, then starts by itself.
Day three: you need a full battery early, so you tap override in the app and it charges at once.
By the weekend: you have a routine. If you want to see what it costs, our page on home charging costs explains how to work it out. Add solar later and the Volec Pulse can follow it, as set out in our solar charging guide. For the wider picture, see smart chargers.
Hackney Charger Rules: Conservation Areas, Front Gardens and the Pavement
Conservation areas
Hackney has many conservation areas, including De Beauvoir. A wall charger on a house is often fine, but external works can need permission, so we check your address before we quote.
De Beauvoir Article 4 direction
The council says its De Beauvoir direction means planning permission is needed for gates, fences and walls, and for hard surfaces in the front garden. If you plan to pave a garden for parking, check first.
Crossovers and the pavement
A new dropped kerb needs council approval. Trailing a cable across the pavement from the house to a street bay is not generally allowed.
Old wiring and the network operator
Victorian and Georgian houses may have older wiring, so we test the consumer unit and earth. We notify your network operator and give you a certificate.

Hackney Home Charger Questions
I own a house in De Beauvoir. Can I fit a charger?
Often yes, but De Beauvoir has an Article 4 direction, and the council says it covers gates, fences, walls and hard surfaces in the front garden. A wall mounted charger may be fine, but external works need checking. Tell us your address first. Our rules and permits guide has the general position.
My Clapton terrace has a tiny front garden. Is there room for a charger?
Usually yes, as a charger takes up very little space. The question is whether your car can park on the property. If it can, we fix the unit to the wall or a post and keep the cable close to the house.
Hackney has over 1,200 public charge points. Do I still need my own?
The council reports more than 1,200 installed and a plan for 3,000 by 2030, with Zest running them. Public points help if you have no private space. If you do, a charger of your own is always there when you are, and runs on your schedule. Our smart charging guide covers the detail.
Can I run a cable from my house across the pavement to my car?
In general, no. Trailing cables over a public pavement is a trip hazard and not allowed. If you park only on the road, a home charger is not the right answer. A public point or a space on private land is.
My Victorian house has been split into flats. Do you fit chargers there?
We install at houses and workplaces. If you own the whole house and it is a single home, we can help. A split building with shared ownership is a different matter, and we would not be the right fit.
Will old wiring in a Hackney terrace cope with a charger?
It depends on the house. Some need a new consumer unit or an earth upgrade, others do not. We test both at the survey and list any work in your quote before you commit.
We run a workshop in Hackney Wick. Can you fit chargers there?
Yes. We install chargers at workplaces as well as homes, whether for staff cars or a company van. See our workplace charging page or send us your site details.
How much does installation cost?
From £899 for the Volec Pulse, £995 for the EVEC Home Charger and £999 for the Ohme Home Pro, all fully installed. The price is fixed after the survey.
Which charger suits a terrace in E8 or N16?
Most owners go for the Volec Pulse because of the price and the IP66 case. If you want your charger to follow your electricity tariff, look at the Ohme Home Pro. Our page on Type 1 and Type 2 plugs helps if you drive an older import.
Do you cover Dalston, Homerton and Stamford Hill?
Yes, the whole borough. Send your postcode and we confirm. More answers are on our FAQs page.
