Home EV Charger Installation in Havering

Havering is outer east London, and for many people the car is part of daily life. Romford, Hornchurch, Upminster and Harold Hill have 1930s semis, post war estates and larger houses on wide plots, and plenty of homes have a drive or a garage at the side. That is good news if you are switching to electric, because the easiest place to charge is the one the car already sleeps.

EV Install Pro supplies and fits Volec, Ohme and EVEC chargers from £899, fully installed. An engineer surveys first, tests the wiring, measures the route from the meter and sends one fixed price in writing. We cover the RM postcodes across the borough, from Rainham to Upminster, and we check your street against the council’s 11 conservation areas, including Gidea Park, before quoting.

Three Typical Havering Charger Jobs

Nearly every home we see fits one of these. Find yours to see what to expect.

The straightforward job

The car parks on the drive, the meter is close, and the consumer unit has space. The charger goes on the wall, the cable runs a short way, and the job is quick.

The longer run

The meter is at the back or the car parks at the far end of a long drive. We need more cable and sometimes ducting, so the route is priced as its own line.

The job with extra electrical work

The consumer unit is full or dated, or the earthing needs attention. We test this at the survey and quote the extra work separately before you commit.

Not sure which one you are? Send a photo of your drive and meter. If you run a unit in Rainham or Romford, we also fit workplace chargers.

Home EV Charger Installation

Charging at Home in Romford, Hornchurch, Upminster and Harold Hill

Havering’s housing is varied, and each type suggests a different kind of install.

Semis and bungalows in Hornchurch, Collier Row and Harold Hill

Many have a front drive and a short path to the meter. A wall mounted charger beside the car is the typical solution.

Larger houses in Emerson Park, Upminster and Cranham

Wider plots mean the car may park some way from the meter. We measure the route and show the cost of any longer run in your quote.

Terraces and streets with no drive

Havering has been fitting lamp column chargers where residents cannot charge at home. Our no driveway guide explains what that means for you.

Pick a charger and we confirm one fixed price after the survey. It includes the unit, a standard cable run, testing and your certificate. A longer route or consumer unit work is added as a separate line. Our guide to installation costs explains what drives the number.

Volec Pulse, Ohme Home Pro or EVEC: Side by Side

Every one of these works with every modern UK electric car. For houses, 7kW is the sensible choice, since 22kW chargers need three phase power that homes rarely have. Compare them here.

Work Out Your Own Smart Charging Saving in Three Steps

Rather than quote a figure that may not match your plan, here is how to find your own.

  1. Find your two rates. Look at your electricity bill or app for the standard unit rate and any cheaper night rate.
  2. Find your car’s appetite. Your car’s handbook or dashboard shows how many miles it covers per unit of electricity.
  3. Compare the two. Multiply the miles you drive in a week by the cost per mile at each rate. The gap is what a charging schedule can save you.

Our page on home charging costs gives more help, smart chargers explains the technology, and our solar charging guide covers panels.

Havering Charger Rules: Conservation Areas, Crossovers and Pavements

Havering's 11 conservation areas

The council lists Corbets Tey, Cranham, Gidea Park, Havering-atte-Bower, Langtons, North Ockendon, RAF Hornchurch, Rainham, Romford, St Andrews and St Leonards. A wall charger is often fine, but we check your address first.

Gidea Park

Gidea Park is known for its Arts and Crafts houses. Because it is a conservation area, we take care over where the unit and cable go and flag anything to confirm.

Dropped kerbs and pavements

A new crossover needs council approval, and cables across the pavement are not generally allowed. Check with the council before changing a frontage.

Wiring and the network operator

We test your consumer unit and earth, notify your network operator and issue your certificate.

Havering Home Charger Questions

We have an Arts and Crafts house in Gidea Park. Can we fit a charger?

Often yes, but Gidea Park is a conservation area, so we take care over where the unit and cable go. We check your address first and tell you what to confirm. Our rules and permits guide has the general position.

Each is one of the council’s 11 conservation areas. A neat wall mounted charger is often possible, but external works can need permission. We check at the survey and note anything to confirm before you commit.

Usually yes. The car parks near the house, the meter is often close, and the cable run is short. We still test the consumer unit and measure the route before giving a fixed price.

Mainly the cable. If the car parks far from the meter, the extra run and any ducting are shown as their own line in your quote. We often find a tidier route along a boundary wall or through the garage.

The council announced lamp column and car park points in 2022 for residents who cannot charge at home. They are shared, and check the council for what is live now. With a drive, a charger of your own is private and runs on your schedule, as explained in our smart charging guide.

In general, no. Cables across a public pavement are a trip risk and not allowed. If you only park on the street, a home charger is not the right fit. A lamp column or car park point is.

A new dropped kerb needs council approval, and in a conservation area the works may need permission too. If your crossover already exists, we can go ahead once the survey is done.

Yes. We install at workplaces as well as homes, for vans, staff cars or visitors. See our workplace charging page or send your site details.

From £899 for the Volec Pulse, £995 for the EVEC Home Charger and £999 for the Ohme Home Pro, all fully installed and fixed after the survey. Most Havering customers choose the Volec Pulse for value. If you want the charger to follow your tariff, look at the Ohme Home Pro.

Yes, the whole borough. Send your postcode and we confirm. More answers are on our FAQs page.
