Home EV Charger Installation in Islington
Islington is one of London’s most densely built boroughs, a mix of flats, Georgian and Victorian terraces, and mews houses, and most of its streets have no space to park a car off the road. That makes a home charger a specialist job here, and an honest one: it only works where a vehicle can stand on private land, such as a mews garage in Canonbury, a forecourt in Highbury or a drive in Whitehall Park. If that is you, it is worth doing properly.
EV Install Pro handles those addresses. We fit Volec, Ohme and EVEC chargers from £899 including installation, after a survey that checks your wiring, your parking and your planning position. With 42 conservation areas in the borough, from Barnsbury to Tufnell Park, and many listed Georgian houses, the survey also covers what the council would expect to see. You get one fixed price in writing before any work begins.

Will a Home Charger Work at Your Islington Address?
Parking decides everything in this borough. Here is our straight verdict for the main situations.
Yes: you have a drive, forecourt or private bay
A wall or post mounted charger beside the car is routine. We survey, quote and fit, and check heritage limits first.
Yes: you have a mews garage or lock up
A garage is a good spot for a charger. We run a supply from your consumer unit or a suitable board and fit inside.
Maybe: a shared forecourt or yard
You will need agreement on position and on who pays for the supply. Tell us how the space is shared and we advise.
No: you park only on the street
A charger on your own wall cannot reach the car, and cables across a pavement are not acceptable. Public points are your option instead.

Islington’s houses are mostly period homes, and each area has its own layout. Here is what we see most.
Highbury, Whitehall Park and Highgate Hill
Larger Victorian houses, some with front drives or garages. These are the easiest Islington addresses for a wall mounted charger.
Georgian terraces in Canonbury, Barnsbury and the Angel
Handsome but tight. Many are listed, so cables and fixings are planned carefully. A shared or rear access garage is often the only workable spot.
Streets with no off street parking
Islington is building a large lamp column network. Our no driveway guide explains how public charging fits in if you cannot charge at home.
Islington Home Charger Installation Prices From £899
One fixed price per charger once we have surveyed the property. It covers the unit, a standard cable run, testing and your certificate. Heritage sensitive routing, longer runs or consumer unit work are listed separately. Our guide to installation costs shows what moves the number.

Questions to Put to Any Installer, and Our Answers
A charger is a long term purchase. Use these when you compare quotes.
Is the price fixed?
Yes. We confirm one price in writing after the survey, with any extras listed on their own lines.
Will you check my planning position?
Yes. In a borough with 42 conservation areas and many listed buildings, we check before we quote.
Is the work certified?
Yes. We test the circuit, notify your network operator and issue an Electrical Installation Certificate.
Which charger do you recommend?
Usually the Volec Pulse from £899, for price and its IP66 case. We explain the others if your tariff or lead preference points elsewhere.
Who sets up the app?
We do, before we leave, and we show you how to set a charging schedule.
Read the Volec Pulse, Ohme Home Pro and EVEC Home Charger pages for specs, and tethered and untethered chargers for the lead choice.
Get a quoteSmart Charging Explained: What, Why, How and Limits
What it is. A smart charger connects to an app so it can start, stop and time a charge for you.
Why it helps. Many electricity plans are cheaper overnight, so charging then can lower your bill. See what home charging costs.
How it works. You set a window in the app, plug in when you arrive and leave it. It starts when the window opens, or at once if you override it.
Where it has limits. It needs a signal where the charger sits, and savings depend on your plan. Panels can add a further saving, as set out in our solar charging guide, and smart chargers covers the wider picture.
Islington Charger Rules: 42 Conservation Areas, Listed Houses and Pavements
42 conservation areas
Islington lists 42, including Canonbury, Barnsbury, Highbury Fields, Highbury New Park, Whitehall Park, Tufnell Park, the Angel and Stroud Green. The council uses Article 4(2) directions in some, where minor external works can need permission.
Listed Georgian houses
Many period houses here are listed. Anything fixed to a listed building may need consent, so we plan positions and cable routes with that in mind and flag what to confirm.
Cables across the pavement
Council officers have described trailing cables across pavements as dangerous and a trip hazard. Cables across public pavements are not an option for a home charger.
Wiring and the network operator
We test the consumer unit and earth, which matters in older buildings. We notify your network operator and issue your certificate.

Islington Home Charger Questions
We own a Georgian terrace in Canonbury or Barnsbury. Can we fit a charger?
Only if a car can park on your property, which is rare on these streets. If you have a garage, mews space or rear access, it is possible. Many of these houses are listed or in conservation areas, so we plan the position and check consent. Our rules and permits guide covers the basics.
Most Islington houses have no drive. Who is a home charger for?
Owners with a garage, a mews bay, a private forecourt or a drive, often in Highbury, Whitehall Park, Highgate Hill and parts of Tufnell Park. If you park only on the street, the better route is a public point.
We have a lock up garage near the Angel. Can you fit a charger?
Often yes. We check the supply to the garage, run it from a suitable source and fit the charger inside. If the garage is part of a shared block, you will need the owner’s agreement first.
Islington has 600 public chargers and plans more. Why fit my own?
The council reports more than 600 public points and plans 840 more, mostly lamp columns and fast chargers, aiming for over 1,400 on-street points by 2030. Public points are shared and may not be on your road. If you have private parking, a home charger is ready when you are, as in our smart charging guide.
Can I run a cable from my house across the pavement to my car?
No. The council has described trailing cables across pavements as dangerous and a trip hazard. If you have no private space, use a public point.
Is a listed house harder to fit a charger to?
It needs more care. Fixings on a listed building may need consent, so we choose the least intrusive position, plan the cable route and tell you what to confirm with the council before you commit.
Can my older wiring cope with a charger?
Often with a check. Older buildings may need a consumer unit or earthing upgrade, which we test at the survey and list in your quote. See our guide to a new consumer unit.
Our studio is in Clerkenwell. Can you fit chargers for staff?
Yes, and we do so for offices, studios and small sites. Look at our workplace charging page or send your layout and we will advise.
How much does installation cost, and which charger should I pick?
The Volec Pulse is £899, the EVEC Home Charger £995 and the Ohme Home Pro £999, fully installed and fixed after the survey. Most owners go for the Volec Pulse. Choose the Ohme Home Pro if you want a charger that follows your tariff on its own.
Do you cover Holloway, Finsbury Park and Archway?
Yes, all of Islington. Add your postcode to the form and we will confirm. Other common questions are on our FAQs page.
