Home EV Charger Installation in Kensington and Chelsea

The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea is stucco terraces, garden squares, tucked away mews and grand villas, and the council itself says most residents have no off street parking. For them, public charging is the answer. For the rest, the owners of a mews house with a garage, a villa with a forecourt or a house with a private drive, a charger on your own wall is quieter, quicker and always free when you are.

EV Install Pro fits Volec, Ohme and EVEC chargers at those addresses, from £899 including installation, after a survey of your wiring, parking and planning position. Much of the borough sits in a conservation area, with Article 4 directions that control small changes to the outside of houses, so we plan every position and cable route to be discreet and compliant. Home EV Charger Installation

Charging at Home in Chelsea, Kensington, Notting Hill and Holland Park

Few boroughs have such varied housing in so small an area. Here is how the main types work for charging.

Mews houses in Kensington, Chelsea and Notting Hill

A ground floor garage makes a mews house one of the best addresses for a home charger. We run the supply, fit the unit inside and keep the street scene untouched.

Villas and large houses in Holland Park and Kensington

Gated forecourts and drives suit a wall or post mounted charger. Some households want two, so we plan the supply for more than one car.

Stucco terraces without parking

Most of these have no private space. The council has built a large lamp column network instead, and our no driveway guide explains how it works.

Five Ways We Keep a Charger Discreet

In a conservation area, the best charger is one you barely notice.

Use the garage

In a mews house, the charger goes inside. Nothing is visible from the street.

Pick a side or return wall

Away from the front elevation, so the unit does not sit on the main facade.

Mount it low and tidy

A compact unit at a sensible height, with cable run neatly along mortar lines or in matching cover.

Shelter it

A porch, carport or recess keeps the unit out of the weather and out of sight. The Volec Pulse is also IP66 rated for open walls.

Choose the lead style

A socketed charger like the Volec Pulse has no lead hanging on the wall, while tethered units keep a 5m cable attached.

See the Volec Pulse, Ohme Home Pro and EVEC Home Charger. Our note on tethered and untethered chargers covers the lead question.

Match the Smart Feature to Your Situation

Not every smart feature is for every household. Use the ones that fit.

  • If your plan has a cheaper night rate, set a charging window. See what home charging costs.
  • If you have solar panels, use a solar aware mode, as in our solar charging guide.
  • If you drive a short distance, set a lower charge limit and skip the full battery.
  • If two people share the car, use override for a fast top up when plans change.

For the technology behind it, read our guide to smart chargers.

Royal Borough Charger Rules: Article 4, Footways and Lamp Columns

Article 4 directions

The council says its Article 4 directions control small scale changes to the outside of houses, including windows, front doors, boundary walls and roof coverings, often on front elevations. We check whether your street is covered before we propose a position.

Cables across the footway

The council says placing hazardous objects on the public highway is an offence under the Highways Act 1980. It has looked at pavement gullies and found no acceptable cross pavement solution at this time, and says it will reconsider after electrical safety advice from the IET.

The public network

The council reports almost 700 lamp column chargers, 311 fast points and three rapid chargers, with nearly all residents within 200 metres of one. They suit anyone without private parking.

Wiring and the network operator

Older buildings can hide dated wiring, so we check the consumer unit and earthing. The network operator is told for you and an Electrical Installation Certificate is issued.

Kensington and Chelsea Home Charger Questions

We own a stucco terrace in Notting Hill with no parking. Can we fit a charger?

A home charger needs private parking, which most terraces here do not have. If you have a garage, rear access or a forecourt, it may be possible. If not, use the council’s public network instead. Our no driveway guide explains how.

It is one of the best. The charger sits inside, out of view, and we run a supply from your consumer unit. We check the garage wiring, the route and any shared access, then give a fixed price. If the mews is shared, agree the work with neighbours first.

The council says its Article 4 directions control small scale changes to the outside of houses, such as windows, front doors, boundary walls and roof coverings. A charger on a front wall may be affected, so we check your street and pick a discreet position. See our rules and permits guide.

It needs more care. Fixings on a listed building may need consent, so we choose the least intrusive spot, often inside a garage or on a rear wall, and tell you what to confirm with the council before you commit.

Lamp column points are shared and slower, around 5kW, and the council cannot fit them to heritage style columns. A charger at home is ready when you are and follows your schedule, as set out in our smart charging guide. If you have no private parking, the public network is the right answer.

No. The council says it is an offence under the Highways Act 1980 to place hazardous objects on the public highway, and it has not found an acceptable pavement gully solution at this time. It says it will reconsider after safety advice from the IET.

Yes. A longer drive means more cable, which is shown as its own line in your quote. For two cars we plan the supply for two chargers, so both can charge overnight. Gates and gravel are routine for us.

Yes. We install at workplaces as well as homes, for staff, visitors or company cars. See our workplace charging page or send your site details.

Fitted prices are £899 for the Volec Pulse, £995 for the EVEC Home Charger and £999 for the Ohme Home Pro, each fixed once the survey is done. Most owners choose the Volec Pulse for price and its IP66 case. Pick the Ohme Home Pro if you want it to follow your tariff.

Yes, from the Kings Road to Ladbroke Grove. Share your postcode and we will confirm the area; the FAQs page covers other common points.
