Home EV Charger Installation in Camden
Much of Camden is flats and period terraces with street parking, so a home charger works only if you have private parking. If you have a front forecourt, a mews garage or your own space, we fit smart chargers from £899, fully installed, with one price agreed after a survey. We also fit chargers at Camden workplaces.
- Forecourts, mews garages and private bays

EV Charger Installation Services for Camden Houses and Workplaces
Camden properties are older and tighter than most of London, so careful fixing and clear planning advice count for as much as the charger.
Front forecourts and gardens
Many Camden terraces have a small forecourt. If your car parks there, we mount the charger discreetly and route the cable out of sight where we can.
Mews houses and garages
Mews homes often have a garage at street level. We fit the charger inside and run a protected supply from the consumer unit.
Careful fixing into period brickwork
Stock brick, stucco and painted fronts all need the right fixings. We plan the position first and keep marks to a minimum.
Planning checks before we quote
Camden has Article 4 directions in several conservation areas. We tell you what to confirm with the council before we book.
Workplace and shared business parking
Camden is full of offices and studios. We install workplace chargers for businesses with their own parking.
Tested, registered and certified
Testing, network operator notice and your Electrical Installation Certificate come with every job.
Charging at Home in Camden: What Works for Your Property
Parking decides everything in Camden. Here is how it plays out for the three kinds of house we see most. If you are not sure which one is yours, send us a photo of where the car sits and we tell you.
Houses in Hampstead, Highgate and Belsize Park
Larger houses here often have a forecourt, a drive or a garage. That makes a wall mounted charger simple, though conservation area rules need checking before we fix anything outside.
Terraces in Kentish Town, Gospel Oak and Primrose Hill
Narrow terraces usually rely on street parking, but some have a forecourt or a rear garage. Where yours does, we make the most of it. Our terraced house guide covers the typical layouts.
Street parking only
Camden says a cable should not run across the public footway. If your car lives on the street, the council's lamppost chargers are the route, and our no driveway guide compares the choices, including when a dropped kerb could make sense.
Camden Home EV Charger Prices: Fully Fitted From £899
Pick a charger and we give you one price after the survey. It covers the unit, a standard cable run, testing and your certificate. Period buildings sometimes need a longer route or extra care when fixing, and we show that as a separate line. Read how installation is priced for more.

Volec Pulse, Ohme Home Pro or EVEC: A Camden Comparison
Space is tight in Camden, so how the charger looks and how the cable behaves matter. All three work with any modern UK electric car, and a 7kW unit is the right size for nearly every house, because 22kW needs three phase power.

Choosing a Charger for a Period Property
On an older front, what hangs on the wall matters. Here is how each charger behaves.
Volec Pulse: nothing left hanging
It is socketed, so you plug in your own Type 2 lead and take it with you. No cable stays on the front of the house, which suits a period frontage. It is also IP66 rated for a forecourt wall.
Ohme Home Pro: for tariff users
The 5m cable stays attached, so you need somewhere tidy to hang it. In return it follows your electricity tariff on its own 4G connection and starts at the cheapest time.
EVEC Home Charger: a flexible middle option
It also has a 5m attached cable, and you can set the output between 3.7kW and 7.4kW, which helps if your supply is limited. It is solar ready with an eco mode.
Lead choice is the main question. Our guide to Type 1 and Type 2 plugs helps if you drive an older import, and you can read more on each charger: the Volec Pulse, the Ohme Home Pro and the EVEC Home Charger.
Get a quoteYour Own Charger or a Lamppost Point: An Honest Comparison
Camden is adding lamppost chargers, with more than 550 chargers already in the borough and at least 500 more planned. They are mainly aimed at drivers who park on the street. Here is how a point of your own compares.
- Always yours: a charger on your own space is never occupied by a neighbour, and you do not move the car to find a free bay.
- Your timing: set the app to charge on your cheapest overnight rate and the car starts by itself.
- Lamppost points: shared, in a resident bay, and useful if you have nowhere private to park.
- Camden decides locations: you email the council with your address, and requests are reviewed together, not one by one.
If you have private parking, our guide to smart chargers explains what the app does, and the cost of charging at home helps you work out your savings.
Camden EV Charger Rules: Conservation Areas, Article 4 and Supply
Article 4 directions
Camden has Article 4 directions in several conservation areas, including Belsize, Fitzjohns Netherhall, Hampstead, Primrose Hill, South Hampstead, South Hill Park Estate, Dartmouth Park, and Redington and Frognal. They remove some permitted development rights, so check your address first.
Front gardens and hardstanding
In Belsize, one direction removes rights to build hardstanding at certain properties on Belsize Avenue. If you plan to pave a front garden to park a car, check the rules before spending anything.
Mews and garage supply
A garage charger needs its own protected supply and suitable earthing. We test this at the survey and write any extra work into your price.
Network operator and certificate
We notify your network operator, usually UK Power Networks in central London, and you receive a certificate. Older wiring is common in Camden, so we test the consumer unit first.

Camden EV Charger Questions
Camden is adding 500 lamppost chargers. Do I still need my own?
If you park on the street, the lamppost chargers are the realistic route. If you have a forecourt, a garage or a private space, your own charger is always available and runs on your schedule. Compare the two in our guide to smart charging.
I live in a flat. Can you help?
We install houses and workplaces with private parking, so we cannot take on flats with shared or street parking. You can email Camden Council with your address to ask for a charge point near your home, though requests are reviewed collectively and not every one can be met.
Can you fit a charger in my mews garage?
Yes. We install inside the garage on its own protected circuit and check the earthing. Tell us about the garage and the distance from the consumer unit when you enquire, and we cover any longer run in the fixed price after the survey.
I am in Hampstead or Belsize Park. What should I check?
Camden has Article 4 directions across several conservation areas, including Hampstead and Belsize, that remove some permitted development rights. Send us your postcode and we tell you what to confirm with the council. The general position is in our rules and permits guide.
Can I pave my front garden to make a parking space?
Possibly, but in some Camden areas, such as parts of Belsize, an Article 4 direction removes rights to build hardstanding. You may also need a dropped kerb from the council. Check before you spend money on groundwork.
Can I run a cable from my window across the pavement?
No. Camden’s own guidance says running a cable across the public footway should not be done because of health and safety.
How much does the installation cost?
From £899 for the Volec Pulse, £995 for the EVEC Home Charger and £999 for the Ohme Home Pro, fully installed. Period buildings sometimes need extra care or a longer run, which we show as a separate line in your fixed quote.
We run a business in Camden. Can you fit chargers at our premises?
Yes, if you have private parking. We handle workplace charger installation for offices, studios and depots, and we survey before quoting.
Which charger suits a period terrace?
The Volec Pulse is a strong choice because you plug in your own lead, so nothing stays on the front of the house. If you are on a smart tariff, the Ohme Home Pro tracks it. The difference between tethered and untethered chargers is worth a read.
Do you cover Highgate, Kentish Town and West Hampstead?
Yes, all of Camden. Send your postcode and we confirm. More answers are on our FAQs page.
